FAQs

What exactly is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of care that is based on the principle “let likes address likes” (which you may have heard as the latin phrase similia similibus curentur). In other words, the disturbances that a substance produces in a healthy person can address those same disturbances in a person experiencing ill-health. The “substances” used in homeopathy are in the form of energetic remedies.

What do you mean by “energetic”? And where do the remedies come from?

Remedies come from a variety of sources - plants, animals, and minerals are the most common, but a remedy can come from almost anything. To create a remedy, a substance goes through a series of progressive dilutions and succussions (shaking) - this process is called potentisation. As the substance continues through the process of dilution and shaking, less and less of the starting substance remains until, after a certain point, there is no trace of the original material left - just its energetic (or informational) imprint remains. This is why the remedies are called energetic.

How do the remedies work?

An imbalance arises when we are stuck somewhere in our bodies or lives. The remedies give us a nudge to move out of that pattern of stagnation. This is where the ideas of “likes addressing likes” and remedies containing “energetic information” come together - everyone’s pattern of stagnation is unique to them; thus, it is the goal of the homeopath to match the remedy (or remedies) with the energetic information that best matches the person’s pattern of stagnation. This is why homeopathy is also an individualised system of care - everything is specific to the person and their unique circumstances in life. If we were to use another analogy - just as a conductor helps to cohere an orchestra into a beautiful symphony, so, too, do the remedies help to cohere the flow of the inner symphony of our being.

I have XYZ condition; can homeopathy treat it?

This is a great question that brings up a couple of important points. First, at least in the US, most homeopaths are not licensed medical providers, so they do not diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or mitigate any diseases. Second, the goal of homeopathy is to look at an individual holistically and strengthen their constitution so that they can experience a deeper sense of wellness within themselves.

What does a consult look like?

The intake is an extended conversation that looks at your state of health on several levels. This helps the homeopath learn more about who you are as a person and where any stagnation is showing in your vital force. Follow-ups are similar, but they tend to be shorter in length; the goal in a follow-up is to see how you’re reacting to the remedy (or remedies) and whether or not things need to be adjusted or changed completely.

Where do sessions take place? Do I need to see you in person?

One of the beautiful things about homeopathy is that it can be done both in person and virtually. Sessions with me currently take place over video calls through Zoom.

What do the remedies look like, and how are they taken? Are they safe?

Remedies can come in many forms, but they generally come as small, round pillules, small tablets, or liquid solutions. All of these forms are taken by mouth. In regards to if they are safe - absolutely. There are no contraindications between a homeopathic remedy and any allopathic drugs a person may be currently taking. And while the remedies are completely safe, it is very helpful to work with a homeopath when dealing with longstanding concerns and navigating which remedy is most appropriate.
